The Power of Pollen: How Male Plants Drive Cookies Genetics

At Cookies, our brand is built on the foundation of game-changing genetics, a process that relies on the vital contribution of the male cannabis plant. While females produce the flower we know and love, it is the male that provides the pollen necessary to breed new cultivars, making this a critical first step in our process.

In our R&D program, we monitor male plants for maturity, knowing the pollen is viable and ready for collection only when their pollen sacs begin to open. Because timing is everything, this opening is the critical signal to start the harvest.

To collect the pollen, we cut the male flowers inside a controlled environment to prevent cross-contamination. These harvested flowers are then agitated over a micro-screen, a straightforward process that separates the fine pollen and yields the pure genetic material we need for breeding.

This collected pollen is then carefully stored, ready to be introduced to a chosen female, which is where the magic happens. By selectively breeding plants with desirable traits like a unique flavor profile, a specific aroma, an appealing look, and a high yield, we can create something entirely new. It’s this dedication to the art and science of breeding that has allowed us to develop an extensive library of proprietary cannabis strains. Every strain, from Cereal Milk to London Pound Cake 75, is a testament to the power of pollen and the endless possibilities of cannabis genetics.
